In the 1800s, Independence Day meant gathering in the town square, raising the flag, and filling the air with live brass music. On July 4, 2026, Westwind Brass brings that tradition back. Beginning at 10:00 AM at the park’s historic flagpole, the quintet performs two hours of patriotic classics, American standards, and brass band favorites in the spirit of the celebrations that San Diego’s earliest residents would have known.
Old Town San Diego State Historic Park’s annual Old-Fashioned Fourth of July celebration is a beloved tradition for San Diego families — a chance to experience the sights, sounds, and spirit of 19th-century Independence Day. Westwind Brass is proud to be part of it, performing live at the flagpole as part of the park’s free, all-ages festivities that continue throughout the day.
Free and open to the public. No tickets, no registration — just arrive and enjoy. The full park celebration runs 11:00 AM – 4:00 PM with historic games, hands-on activities, and more.
ADMISSION: Free. Open to all ages. Old Town San Diego State Historic Park is free to enter
