Nogales, Sonora, is celebrating its annual Feria del Hueso, a festivity celebrating the Day of the Dead this weekend through Monday.
Dozens of vendors selling traditional dishes, marigolds, candy skulls, and crafts line the streets by the city’s cemetery as families pay their respect to their loved ones.
Live performances will also take place throughout the weekend in the cemetery, Calle Reforma, less than five minutes from the Mariposa Port of Entry. Other venues include the city’s cultural center, CECUM, at Avenida Adolfo Ruiz Cortinez 1537, south of the downtown area, and at the municipal auditorium, Teatro Auditorio de Nogales, 84847 Avenida Alvaro Obregón.
The Day of the Dead, celebrated on Nov. 1 and 2, is one of Mexico’s most well-known celebrations in which families visit graves and lay out food and flowers for departed family members.
